Further to our announcement about Russian Literature Week in London, we are delighted to reveal that we will be hosting the award-winning writer Vladimir Makanin here in Oxford on Friday 24th April. Makanin studied Mathematics at the Moscow State University and worked as a mathematician until, in 1963, he realised that literature is far more fun than maths and started to write, however fell out of favour with the Soviet authorities. In the 1980s, however, he was re-discovered and has been more and more acclaimed by writers and critics alike, being awarded a number of prestigious literary prizes. For more information see:
